Slough Teen Cleared of Murder in Fatal Stabbing Case
Hamza Mahmood, 18, from Shaggy Calf Lane, Slough, has been found not guilty of murder and manslaughter after a tense re-trial at Reading Crown Court. The jury acquitted him of all charges today, wrapping up a case that began nearly four years ago.
Fatal January 2020 Stabbing Shakes Slough
The re-trial concerned the tragic death of 18-year-old Mohammed Aman Ashraq from Slough, who was fatally stabbed on the evening of 4 January 2020 in Benjamin Lane, Wexham, Slough.
That night, an altercation broke out between Mr Ashraq and Mohammed Hussain, also 18, leading to Mr Ashraq being stabbed in the back with a hunting knife. Paramedics rushed him to Wexham Park Hospital, but he sadly died later that night from his injuries.
Co-Defendant Sentenced to Nearly Two Decades
Mohammed Hussain was convicted of murder and sentenced to a minimum of 19 years in prison earlier in July 2020 for his role in the attack.
Detective Pays Tribute to Family’s Strength
“This has been a long and painful process for the family of Mr Ashraq,” said Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Dejan Avramovic of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit. “My thoughts remain with them and I hope that the conclusion of today’s re-trial gives them some solace after this tragic incident. I would like to pay tribute to them for supporting our investigation throughout what has been an extremely difficult time.”
The verdict closes a difficult chapter for the Ashraq family, as the community looks on hoping for healing after the tragic loss.
