Rockets Rain on Israel from Gaza, Tel Aviv Sirens Wail
Alarm bells rang out across Tel Aviv and beyond early Saturday as dozens of rockets were fired from the blockaded Gaza Strip into Israel. The barrage erupted at 6:30am and rained down for nearly 30 minutes, sending sirens blaring as far as greater Tel Aviv, some 70km north of Gaza.
Casualties Reported Amid Rocket Fury
Chaos struck southern Israel when a 70-year-old woman was critically injured by a rocket hit on a building, officials said. A 20-year-old man also suffered moderate injuries from shrapnel. The Israeli rescue service, Magen David Adom, confirmed the casualties as frightened residents scrambled for cover.
Gunfire and Fighter Movements at Gaza’s Edge
Meanwhile, tense clashes broke out along the Gaza border near Khan Younis, where locals reported hearing heavy gunfire and spotting armed Palestinian fighters moving in force. Israel’s military remained tight-lipped on the unfolding ground action.
Netanyahu to Meet Security Chiefs Amid Escalating Violence
With no immediate claims from Hamas or Islamic Jihad, both key players in the region’s violence, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for an urgent meeting with top security officials.
These rocket attacks come amid a spike in clashes on both sides. Over 200 Palestinians have died this year in conflicts with Israeli forces, while nearly 30 Israelis have been killed in retaliatory attacks. The volatile situation threatens to spiral into wider warfare.
