Wiltshire Police Crack Down on County Lines Drug Gangs in Major Operation
15 Arrested in Week-Long Drugs Sweep
From February 27 to March 5, Wiltshire Police launched an intense crackdown on drug networks using mobile phones to move Class A drugs from big cities into towns and rural areas. Officers from the Fortitude Team, Roads Policing Unit, and neighbourhood teams joined forces to disrupt these dangerous County Lines gangs.
During County Lines Intensification Week, raids hit properties across Swindon, bradford/" title="Bradford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Bradford on Avon, and Devizes, resulting in 15 men over 18 being arrested on suspicion of drug offences. Police seized £5,700 worth of crack cocaine and £23,000 of other illegal substances.
Key Suspects Held and Charged
- Gabriel Rios, 22, from Walcot, Swindon, faces charges for being involved in supplying Class A drugs and has been remanded in custody.
- Thomas Melton Ruddock, 31, homeless, was charged with possession with intent to supply cocaine and handling criminal property. He is also in custody.
Officers also conducted 38 checks on vulnerable sites, closed down one property, and carried out 128 patrols in known hotspots.
Police Praise Community Support
“These are excellent results and mean thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been taken off the streets,” said Detective Superintendent Ben Mant.
“We arrested 15 people and have so far charged three — with one already pleading guilty. We disrupt County Lines all year round, but this week especially saw coordinated efforts across the region.
“These organised gangs bring misery and prey on some of the most vulnerable in our communities. We hope the public feel reassured by our relentless work, but we can’t do it alone. We urge anyone who spots suspicious activity to report it to us.”
Crime Commissioner Sends Strong Message
Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson added, “Drugs devastate lives, fuelling gang culture, violent crime and anti-social behaviour across the county.”
“The message from the people of Wiltshire is clear — they want dealers off our streets. With operations like this, we’re showing County Lines gangs that Wiltshire is no soft touch. Our teamwork with neighbouring forces sends a warning to drug criminals everywhere in the region.”
