Man Arrested After Brutal Hammer Attack on Two Women in Sidcup

Police have snapped up a 27-year-old man following a savage assault on two women in Sidcup. The suspect was caught at 7.30pm on 19 August in Old Farm Avenue, just hours after officers launched a public appeal.

Brutal Assault Shakes Sidcup Community

The violent attack happened around 12:10pm at Adderley Gardens, SE9, where two females – believed to be mother and daughter, aged 64 and 30 – were found with serious injuries. Both are now fighting for their lives in south London hospitals.

Officers recovered a hammer at the scene, which could be the weapon behind the horrific assault.

Quick Action by Public Helps Police Nab Suspect

The arrest came after a media appeal boosted public vigilance. A member of the public spotted the suspect, tailing him by car until police could swoop. Response team officers arrested the man on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder. A Taser was drawn but not fired during the arrest.

Police Praise Community for Crucial Support

Detective Superintendent Jane Corrigan said:

“I would like to pass my thanks to the public and the media for all their support. I am extremely proud of my colleagues and the community, who have all done so much to bring this part of the investigation to a safe resolution.

It shows what can be achieved when we all work together.”

Police continue their hunt for answers with a crime scene in place. Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or tweet @MetCC quoting CAD 3412/19AUG.
