Met Police Rescue 25 Kids from Drug Gangs in Shocking London Exploitation Case

Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime unit have identified and safeguarded over 25 vulnerable children aged 14 to 17 during a major investigation into drug-fuelled child exploitation.

Detective Chief Inspector Slams Exploiters

Detective Chief Inspector Laura Hillier said: “This investigation has brought justice to a man who used the lives of young and vulnerable people for his own personal gain. We focused on rescuing these children, who lived in fear of violence from those controlling them.”

“They used children as commodities, grooming them and plunging them into a dangerous adult world. Child exploitation sparks violence and anti-social behaviour across London – something we will never tolerate.”

Drug Ring Busted, Long-Running Supply Line Dismantled

Officers seized five kilograms of Class A drugs including cocaine, heroin, and large quantities of cannabis along with £90,000 cash.

Dominic Francis, 31, was handed nearly six years behind bars for multiple conspiracy charges including supplying Class A and B drugs and exploiting a 14-year-old boy from Newham. He also received a six-year Slavery Trafficking Order.

A 22-year-old man from Newham was sentenced to three years and two months for similar offences involving children as an aggravating factor but has since been released for time served.

The court also heard Francis implicated higher-level drug suppliers, triggering a fresh probe that disrupted a drug line operating for over 15 years.

Family Ties in Crime – Female Relative Gets Suspended Sentence

A 55-year-old female relative was given an eight-month suspended sentence for converting criminal property, attempting to pervert justice, and racially aggravated harassment. She was ordered to complete 40 days of Community Rehabilitation Activity.

While Francis was imprisoned, he orchestrated a child drug-dealing ring over phone calls, instructing a 22-year-old relative to recruit children to supply drugs across London and the southeast.

That relative was caught in Kent and arrested. Officers found two children carrying the drug phone line – a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl – both of whom were safeguarded by the police.

Operation Shine the Spotlight on Child Exploitation

The Met’s investigation began in 2020, with the Modern Slavery and Child Exploitation unit leading the efforts to break this vile network.

Justice has been served, but the Met remains vigilant against child exploitation and drug crime, pledging to protect London’s most vulnerable from falling prey to such criminals.
