Brutal Christchurch Attack Lands Man Behind Bars

A vicious attack in Christchurch has seen Owen Alan Ackers locked up for eight and a half years. The 23-year-old from Burton pleaded guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Bournemouth Crown Court on 17 November 2020.

Savage Assault Leaves Women With Life-Changing Injuries

The brutal incident unfolded on 21 April 2020. Ackers was drinking and socialising at his home with two women, one in her 20s and another in her 40s — both known to him. After an argument, Ackers launched a sustained attack, repeatedly punching one woman hard in the face.

The victim managed to call 999, but when the second woman tried to intervene, Ackers turned his violence on her too. He battered her until she lost consciousness, then bit her face near her nose and forehead while she lay helpless on the floor. After the savage assault, Ackers fled the scene.

Police Hunt Ends With Arrest in Bush

Officers arrived quickly, conducting searches around the area. They found Ackers hiding in a bush nearby and arrested him on suspicion of the assault.

The injuries were severe: one woman required surgery for life-changing facial wounds, plus a lacerated cheek, tender wrists, and a dislocated finger. The unconscious woman suffered a head injury and bruising to her face, chest, and shin.

Detective Speaks Out on Domestic Violence

“This was a truly horrific and terrifying incident for the two women who were both subjected to unrelenting and brutal assaults by Ackers,” said Detective Constable Leila Whittle of Bournemouth CID.

“No one deserves to be violently attacked. Dorset Police is committed to protecting victims and bringing offenders like Ackers to justice. Domestic abuse is taken extremely seriously, especially during the festive season.”

“If you are suffering abuse, we are here to help and encourage you to report it.”

Ackers was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison, plus an extended licence period of 18 months, to keep the community safe.
