Man Jailed for Breaching 10-Year Restraining Order and Threatening Woman

Teo Weston found himself behind bars after repeatedly ignoring a decade-long restraining order. The 35-year-old was slapped with the order at Canterbury Crown Court in April 2020, following his admission that he put a woman in fear of violence.

Ignoring Court Order, Acting Aggressively

The order clearly banned Weston from contacting the victim or entering her street in Margate. Yet, on 2 November 2021, Weston showed up on her street, tailed her to a shop, and acted aggressively when she emerged.

Shocking Hotel Incident Leads to Arrest

Things escalated on 5 February 2022 when Weston met the woman at a Canterbury hotel. He grabbed her by the neck and smashed a bottle, pressing the shards against his own throat. Police arriving at the scene found him nearby, hostile and defiant. Officers were forced to taser Weston before arresting him. He was still clutching the broken bottle and carrying cannabis.

Jail Time and Tough New Order

Weston pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching the restraining order, possession of an offensive weapon, and possession of cannabis. On 17 March 2022, Canterbury Crown Court sentenced him to two years and eight months behind bars.

A new 10-year restraining order was also slapped on Weston, ensuring extra protection for the victim once he is released.

PC Philippa Wheeler of the East Kent Vulnerability Investigation Team said: “Kent Police puts victims at the heart of everything we do and obtaining court orders, like those in this case, is one of the tools open to us. Breach of those orders is a criminal offence and I am pleased the court has recognised the seriousness of that in imposing this prison sentence.”
