Londoner Busted with £1,460 Worth of Heroin and Coke During Lockdown Stop
Mickeel Lemar Smith, 28, from Lambeth, London, was jailed for two years and nine months at Bournemouth Crown Court on Wednesday 18 May 2022. He admitted possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.
Lockdown Traffic Stop Uncovers Massive Drug Haul
On Saturday 18 April 2020, just after 3pm, officers pulled over a vehicle on the A338 Spur Road near Ashley Heath. The country was deep in coronavirus lockdown, with travel restricted to essential journeys only.
As cops questioned the passengers about their trip, they caught the unmistakable whiff of cannabis. A search revealed herbal cannabis inside the car. Smith claimed the drugs were his and was promptly arrested.
Drugs in Clingfilm Worth Thousands Found on Smith
Further searches turned up over 100 clingfilm wraps packed with brown and white powder. Tests confirmed heroin and cocaine with a combined street value of around £1,460.
Police Constable Mark Burton said: “Through this proactive stop by officers we were able to identify an individual involved in the supply of class A drugs and take a quantity of these drugs off the streets.”
“Our roads policing teams patrol regularly to keep roads safe and enforce the law. But this case shows how our presence also helps crack down on serious crime.”
