Drug Dealer Caught Red-Handed in Children’s Playground
Lewis Szewczyk, 26, with no fixed address, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Reading Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply heroin and cocaine, plus possession of criminal property.
Busted in a Kids’ Play Area
On 14 October, police spotted Szewczyk selling drugs hand-to-hand to two suspected users in a children’s playground near Avon Place, Reading. When officers tried to stop him, he bolted, scrambling over garden fences to escape.
Dangerous Attempt to Swallow Drugs
Once caught, police discovered Szewczyk was trying to swallow 33 wraps of heroin and 45 wraps of cocaine he had hidden in his mouth. After being persuaded, he spat out the stash along with £196.55 in cash.
Police Praise Quick Arrest
PC Nicola Henderson from Reading police praised the swift action: “I’m pleased Szewczyk was charged and remanded within 24 hours. His reckless escape caused alarm in the community. Swallowing Class A drugs put his life at serious risk.”
She added: “Our Stronghold campaign continues to work with partners to crack down on organised crime, protecting the most vulnerable from the harmful effects of drug offences.”
