Eastbourne Council Transforms Old Garages into Brilliant New Homes
Eastbourne Borough Council has unveiled six stunning new affordable homes, turning a forgotten garage site into a housing win. This is the first redevelopment of its kind in the area, offering much-needed homes for local families.
New Builds Tailored for Locals in Need
The £ project at Brede Close features five two-bedroom houses reserved for council housing register tenants. Plus, there’s a one-bedroom flat funded partly by the Rough Sleeper Accommodation Programme, aimed at helping the homeless off the streets.
Stylish Homes with Top-Notch Features
Cllr Alan Shuttleworth, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “I am absolutely thrilled to see these new homes and know that people who have been patiently waiting on the housing register will be living in them.”
He added: “The site was once an ugly, unloved row of old garages. To see it transformed into stylish council homes fills me with great pride and satisfaction.”
Each property boasts a rear garden complete with patio, lawn, shed, and bike rack. The homes sit just minutes from Princes Park, local shops, public transport, and the beach—a prime spot for families and singles alike.
Smart Use of Scarce Space Saves Green Areas
Councillor Shuttleworth explained the challenge: “Eastbourne’s geography limits where we can build, so developments like Brede Close are vital. It’s about delivering the right homes in the right place, while protecting our precious green spaces from overdevelopment.”
This clever project showcases how councils can tackle the housing crisis creatively without spoiling the environment.
