Knife Killer Jailed for Isle of Dogs Murder

Kwabena Boateng, 22, was found guilty of murdering Mohammed Ensser in a brutal stabbing on the Isle of Dogs last year. The chilling verdict came at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 29 July. Boateng also admitted possession of a knife during the attack. Sentencing is set for 3 August.

Bitter Row Ends in Fatal Stabbing

The horror unfolded at 8.25pm on Tuesday, 21 September, when police were called to East Ferry Road after reports of a fight. Officers found 33-year-old Mohammed Ensser from Leyton with multiple stab wounds. Despite officers performing CPR and the arrival of London Ambulance Service paramedics, Mohammed was pronounced dead at 8.52pm.

A post-mortem revealed the cause of death as severe blood loss from a stab wound to his neck, which severed a major artery.

Drugs Debt Dispute Turns Deadly

Detectives discovered that Mohammed had been out earlier with a friend in Stamford Hill before taking a taxi to the Isle of Dogs. Boateng and two friends arrived on bikes just minutes before the deadly confrontation. An argument erupted as Boateng accused Mohammed of owing money over drugs.

Witnesses say Boateng whipped out a large knife. In an act of desperation, Mohammed grabbed a discarded toaster, urging Boateng to drop the blade. But Boateng was relentless, chasing Mohammed down and stabbing him as he lay trapped between two cars. Neighbours rushed out to help but Mohammed could only gasp, “I’m going to die,” before collapsing.

Boateng then fled on his bicycle with his mates in tow.

Justice Served After Ruthless Killing

Boateng was caught two months later, hiding under a bed in a Stewart Street flat on the Isle of Dogs. He refused to say a word during police questioning. Investigators pieced together the case using CCTV, witness statements, forensics and phone data.

“Our thoughts are with Mohammed’s family,” said Detective Chief Inspector Larry Smith. “Mohammed was unarmed and wanted to settle a petty drug debt peacefully. But Boateng was ruthless and attacked without mercy, right in front of witnesses.

“This conviction sends a clear message: senseless violence will be hunted down, and the perpetrators will face justice.”
