Man Jailed for Helping Murderers of Edgware Dad
Hafid Omar, 20, from Orange Hill Road, Edgware, has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for assisting offenders linked to the fatal stabbing of Asante Campbell. Omar pleaded guilty on 7 May.
Brutal Murder Shakes Hendon Community
Asante Campbell, 23, a railway track worker and devoted family man, was fatally stabbed in Hendon in February 2020. The attack happened when he was waiting in his car at Bellevue Estate, preparing to travel to work with a friend.
A Toyota Prius pulled up, and four men jumped out, surrounding Asante’s car. They stabbed him through the open window. Despite horrific injuries, Asante managed to drive a short distance and call a family member before crashing into a parked car. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after arrival.
Killers Locked Up for Life
- Kofi Abusah, 19, and Javell Hall, 18, were found guilty of Asante’s murder and given life sentences with a minimum of 19 years behind bars on 23 April.
- Detectives uncovered that Omar drove the getaway car and tried to cover tracks by valeting the vehicle and changing his phone the day after the murder.
Family and Police Demand Justice
“Asante was a hard-working man devoted to his young family,” Detective Chief Inspector Andy Partridge said. “He left his fiancée and baby daughter just 15 minutes before the attack. The motive remains unclear – he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“Omar’s part in this crime cannot be overlooked. We urge anyone with information to come forward. There are still others involved who must be brought to justice.”
Asante’s mother Angela Campbell said, “No mother should have to bury a child under such tragic circumstances. The pain of losing Asante will haunt us forever. We find some comfort in the memories we cherish, but the horror of his passing is something we cannot forget.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Investigations continue to identify others involved. Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8358 0300 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
