Brutal Brixton attacker Mohammed Nur found guilty of murder and violent assaults
Murderer admits to killing Johanita Dogbey
Mohammed Nur, 34, of Bond Way, SW8, has admitted to murdering Johanita Dogbey. He also pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and carrying a pointed or bladed article during a hearing at the Old Bailey on 17 November 2023.
Three GBH attacks just days before murder
Nur was found guilty on 13 May of three counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH). These attacks happened within five minutes in Brixton on 29 April 2023—just two days before he killed Johanita. The assaults left three victims seriously injured as Nur randomly slashed their faces with a homemade weapon late at night.
Detective’s warning: Random attacks terrorised Brixton
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb, lead investigator, said: “Mohammed Nur is guilty of four violent offences, carried out at random in terrifying circumstances. I realise nothing can alleviate the pain and suffering that Johanita’s family continue to endure, but I hope they – and the three other people Nur attacked and injured – can take some comfort from the fact he has been convicted and will spend a lengthy period of time in prison.”
He added: “On 29 April 2023, armed with a makeshift weapon, Nur slashed the faces of three people in separate incidents within five minutes in Brixton. Two days later, he used a similar homemade weapon to attack and kill Johanita Dogbey as she walked in Brixton. The random nature of these brutal attacks left a community in fear.”
Nur’s violence shocks local community
Following the savage murder of Johanita on 1 May, the community remains traumatised. Nur was arrested just hours after the fatal attack. Despite admitting to Johanita’s murder, Nur denied the earlier GBH charges, forcing victims to relive their horrific ordeals in court.
DCI Webb praised the victims’ bravery: “Their courage in supporting the investigation and testifying in court was inspiring.”
Nur remains behind bars and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey for all offences on Thursday, 23 May.
