Monster Kidnapper Sent Down for 20 Years

Kadian Nelson, 26, from Mitcham, was jailed for 20 years today at Kingston Crown Court. He pleaded guilty to kidnapping, raping a 13-year-old girl, and threatening to kill her.

Shocking Attack Halted by Brave Stranger

The terrifying ordeal unfolded on 3 November 2020 just after 7am. Nelson sneaked up behind the schoolgirl in North Place, Mitcham, dragged her into a nearby alley, and attacked her. But a quick-thinking member of the public interrupted the horror.

When confronted, Nelson claimed the girl was his sister and tried to walk off with her. The woman wasn’t fooled – she followed and filmed the pair on her phone. Spooked, Nelson fled, leaving the victim covered in his jacket.

Public Fury & Massive Manhunt

  • Police launched an immediate investigation led by the South West Public Protection Unit.
  • A video of the attack circulated on social media, sparking outrage and street searches for Nelson and his family.
  • Police issued a calm plea, warning the public not to take matters into their own hands and enforced a Section 60 Order to prevent violence.

Nelson was arrested that evening in Robinson Road, SW17 – just over a mile from the scene of the crime. Investigators revealed he had fled to a London hotel and shopped around the city before returning to Merton, where he was caught.

Justice Served, Thanks to Public Vigilance

“We would like to thank the members of the public whose actions of outstanding courage and bravery saved our daughter.” – Victim’s family

Detective Inspector Simon Sherlock blasted Nelson’s “calculated, evil and depraved” actions and praised the woman who intervened. “She trusted her instincts and went out of her way to help the victim,” he said.

Assistant Commissioner Nick Ephgrave urged victims of sexual crimes to come forward. “We have specially trained officers and partners to support victims through these devastating experiences,” he added.
