Man Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Young Girls in Crawley and Devon
Jack Nepean, 30, has been locked up for 12 years after sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl left in his care on New Year’s Eve in Crawley. The sick predator also abused a five-year-old girl in Devon, an investigation revealed.
Victims’ Bravery Praised by Police
The young victims showed “extraordinary bravery” in coming forward to report Nepean’s horrific crimes. Their courage helped bring him to justice swiftly.
Nepean appeared at Hove Crown Court on September 11, where he was sentenced to 12 years behind bars. He must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before parole can be considered.
Harsh Restrictions and Investigations
The court slapped Nepean with an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order to limit his future access to children and electronic devices. Sussex Police investigated, with Nepean admitting to:
- Sexual assault by penetration of a girl under 13 in Crawley
- Sexual assault by touching a girl under 13
- Making indecent images of a child in Sussex
- Additional offences against a five-year-old in Devon including voyeurism
The offences happened on the night of December 31, 2022, continuing into January 1, 2023. Police were alerted shortly after the crimes came to light.
Police Statement on the Case
“This was an absolute betrayal of the trust invested in Nepean, who used his position to commit these awful acts,” said Detective Inspector Iain MacNab of the West Sussex Safeguarding Investigations Unit.
“The child showed extraordinary bravery in telling the police what happened. It has been devastating for her and her family, but they are receiving support from the appropriate agencies.”
“We were determined to get justice for her and ensure a dangerous man has received a significant custodial sentence.”
Detective Constable Pete White and Detective Inspector Becky Davies of Devon & Cornwall Police added: “Nepean committed multiple heinous crimes and we welcome the sentence passed by the judge.”
“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families for their commendable bravery and support during investigations.”
“Their courage to come forward cannot be underestimated. We hope this sentence brings them some closure.”
