Speeding getaway driver behind 20+ thefts and burglaries locked up
Land Rover theft sparks high-speed chase
Shane Seymour was caught red-handed after stealing a Land Rover from a property on St Johns Road in the early hours. He sneaked inside, stole the keys, and sped off. Police soon spotted the stolen vehicle in Sturry, Canterbury, triggering a dramatic pursuit.
Dangerous motorway chase ends in crash and injury
Officers found Seymour at Brenley Corner roundabout, but he blasted away at over 100mph on the M2 towards London. Recklessly overtaking on the hard shoulder, he finally left the motorway at Junction 3 and smashed into another car at a roundabout. Two people were hurt and rushed to hospital.
On the run but caught within minutes
Seymour fled the crash scene but was tracked down just 10 minutes later in Robin Hood Lane, Walderslade, and arrested.
Crime spree spanning three counties exposed
After a thorough Kent Crime Squad probe, Seymour was linked to three burglaries, four vehicle thefts, and 26 other thefts from August to September 2022. His haul included stealing from cars in Herne Bay and Whitstable, plus fuel thefts in Faversham, Chestfield, and the Thanet Way.
The 29-year-old from Bruce Castle Road, North London, was charged with multiple offences including vehicle theft, driving without insurance, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and conspiracy to burgle and steal.
On Friday 24 March 2023, Seymour pleaded guilty and was locked up for five and a half years.
Detective Sergeant Jay Robinson said: “Seymour’s crimes showed he had no regard for the impact his offending had on his victims. Kent residents can be reassured now that he is safely behind bars.”
