PC Cleared After Excessive Force Claims Over Teen Arrest

PC Charlie Raeside faced a misconduct hearing over claims he used excessive force during a 2019 arrest. But the allegations didn’t stick.

Force Allegations Put to the Test

The hearing took place from Tuesday 23 March to Wednesday 24 March. PC Raeside, from the Command Unit, was grilled over his actions while detaining a teenager who fled during a stop at Roneo Corner, Hornchurch on 26 August 2019.

Independent Judge Rules in Officer’s Favour

Akbar Khan, the independent Legally Qualified Chair, delivered the verdict. He found the allegations against PC Raeside were not proven, clearing the officer of any misconduct.

IPOC Involvement and Referral

The case was referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) on 2 September 2019. The watchdog recommended a misconduct hearing, which has now concluded with PC Raeside’s name cleared.
