Reckless biker performs wheelie in front of cops before smashing through Brighton at speed

Daring Stunt Caught by Police

Giacomino Morrone, 24, stunned Specialist Enforcement Unit officers by flipping up his number plate and pulling a wheelie on his motorbike on Lewes Road, Brighton, last April 26.

As police moved to stop him, Morrone bolted, roaring past the University of Brighton and hurtling through red lights at breakneck speeds.

Speeds Over 100mph in 20mph Zones

Helmet and police dashcam footage reveal Morrone reaching 105mph, weaving dangerously between cars, and hitting 80mph in a strict 20mph area at Elm Grove.

The chase stretched to the A27 and Lewes before officers had to call it off for safety reasons.

Busted by ANPR and Drug Tests

Though he thought he’d escaped, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) led cops straight to his doorstep in Burgess Hill. When arrested, Morrone was still dressed in the same gear, and his helmet cam sealed his fate.

At Brighton Magistrates’ Court, Morrone admitted to dangerous and drug driving after blood tests showed 3.9mcg of cannabis per litre of blood—nearly double the legal limit.

“I’m a recreational user. Didn’t realise it was still in my system,” Morrone told officers.

Six-Month Suspended Sentence and Ban

The court handed down a six-month suspended prison sentence, plus an 18-month driving ban. Morrone must pass an extended driving test before getting back on the road.

He’s also been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work, 12 rehabilitation sessions, and must pay £213 in costs and victim surcharge.

Drug-driving remains a leading cause of road deaths and serious injuries, police warned.
