Stepfather and Teen Deny Murder of Five-Year-Old Logan Mwangi
Chilling Claims in Cardiff Crown Court
Angharad Williamson, her partner John Cole, and a 14-year-old boy have all denied murdering young Logan Mwangi. The five-year-old was found dead in the River Ogmore, Bridgend, on 31 July.
During the trial at Cardiff Crown Court, Williamson told jurors that Cole and the teenager had hit and pushed Logan just two days before his tragic death. She also revealed that Cole threatened to kill Logan if she broke up with him.
Violent Outburst Over a Spilled Drink
On 29 July, an argument erupted between Williamson and Cole after someone spilled a drink on her stereo. The dispute escalated quickly, with Cole accusing Logan of smirking and taunting with, “you love it when me and your mum argue”.
Williamson said Cole yanked Logan from his bedroom and, frustrated by his stutter, punched him twice in the stomach, causing the boy to fall and hurt his elbows. Cole then told the teenage boy to “sweep him” if Logan flinched or stuttered again — understood to mean tripping Logan by taking his legs from under him.
When Logan flinched, the teenager swept his leg and pushed Logan’s head to the floor, according to Williamson.
Desperate Attempts to Get Help Blocked
Williamson described trying to leave the flat to get help but being blocked by Cole. “It was so intimidating – I felt so vulnerable and all I wanted was to get help for Logan,” she told the court.
Security footage shown to the jury captured her running out of the family flat in Lower Llansantffraid, Sarn, chased by the teenager, before returning inside minutes later.
She confessed she even told Cole she wanted to leave him “for good”, prompting his chilling response: “If we break up because of Logan, I am going to kill him.”
Heartbreaking Final Moments and Aftermath
The day before Logan’s death, Williamson said the boy didn’t show signs of pain but refused his favourite pizza and chips. She went to sleep around 10 pm after putting him to bed, while Cole and the teenager played Xbox.
She woke at 5:30 am to find Logan missing. Frantic, she called police, telling them Logan might have been taken by someone. “I was hysterical,” Williamson admitted.
She denied any involvement in Logan’s death or knowledge of his body being moved to the river. Williamson also rejected prosecution claims that her grief was “make believe”, insisting, “You can’t fake feelings like that.”
Williamson said she never got to say goodbye to her son or see his body after the autopsy. “I was going to wash all the mud away and put him in some clothes because he was cold and wet,” she told the court.

- Cole has admitted perverting the course of justice.
