Derbyshire Cop Remanded Over Shocking Child Sex Charges
Matthew Shaw, a 37-year-old officer from Derbyshire Police, was remanded in custody after a court hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. Shaw faces a staggering 29 charges, including voyeurism, sexual communication with a child, causing a child to engage in sexual activity, making a child witness a sexual act, and possessing indecent images of children.
Serious Charges and Court Dates
The Nottinghamshire Police charged Shaw last month. He appeared before the court where he was denied bail and is set to return on November 18 for a plea and trial preparation hearing.
Police Speak Out on the Investigation
Detective Inspector Gemma Scott praised the investigation, calling it “complex and large-scale” and emphasised Nottinghamshire Police’s commitment to pursuing sexual offenders against children. She said:
“A significant amount of work has gone into this complex and large-scale investigation, which is reflective of Nottinghamshire Police’s commitment to vigorously pursue those who commit sexual offences against children. We are committed to assisting victims of these types of crimes and will always do everything possible to ensure their justice.”
Derbyshire Police Take Action
Derbyshire Police have suspended Shaw pending the outcome of the case. Deputy Chief Constable Kate Meynell made a clear statement on the matter, saying:
“We expect the highest level of standards and professionalism from our officers and staff. If the alleged offences against Matthew Shaw are proven, they would be far below the standards expected of Derbyshire Constabulary employees.
