Predator Peter Johnson Jailed for Targeting ‘Teen Girl’ on Snapchat

Sex Offender Caught in Online Trap

Peter Johnson, previously known as Peter Austen, has been locked up after flouting court bans and stalking a teen girl online. The 37-year-old was already on the sex offenders register for 10 years following a 2017 conviction for possessing indecent child images. Despite a suspended sentence back then, he’s now paid the price for reoffending.

Snapchat Sting Unmasks Pervert

Kent Police’s Offender Management Unit uncovered Johnson’s deceit in October 2023. Using the fake alias Matt Harper, he messaged a Snapchat account claiming to be a 13-year-old girl. Over several days, Johnson sent explicit images and videos of himself, including voice notes and clothed photos. But the ‘girl’ was a decoy. Some pictures showed Johnson’s face, sealing his fate.

Arrest and Shocking Discoveries

Johnson was arrested at his home near Liptraps Lane on November 15. Police seized his phone and uncovered an illegal child image in the most serious category. Charged with multiple offences, including engaging in sexual communication with a child and failing to comply with sex offender rules, Johnson pleaded guilty.

Three Years Inside and Lifetime Restrictions

On 10 October 2024, Maidstone Crown Court sentenced Johnson to three years, deducting almost a year already served on remand. After release, he faces a 12-year sexual harm prevention order and must comply with notification requirements for life.

Detective Constable Steph Kirkin slammed Johnson for his “persistent and repeated efforts” to target a child and said: “We will do everything in our power to ensure offenders like Johnson face prison. He poses a serious risk to the public.”

Warning to Parents: Stay Vigilant

Police urge parents to talk openly to their kids about internet dangers, cautioning them to only interact online with people they know personally. Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to parents, schools, or the police immediately.
