Thug Caught Red-Handed After Jump-Start Robbery in Sutton-in-Ashfield
Adam Elliott, 37, made a desperate grab for cash after climbing into a car being jump-started in Deepdale Court, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Witnesses said he frantically searched for the keys before being startled by a dog on the back seat.
Jump-Start Job Turns Into Violent Robbery
On the evening of December 28 last year, Elliott suddenly leapt from the vehicle and accosted the helper and his girlfriend. He grabbed the woman and demanded money. The victim’s partner handed over some loose change to calm the situation.
Only two weeks out of prison, Elliott didn’t hang around. He fled the scene on a stolen bicycle but was caught by police soon after and taken into custody.
Judge Slams Repeat Offender, Jails Him For Over Three Years
At Nottingham Crown Court, Elliott pleaded guilty to one count of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery, and possession of cannabis. He was sentenced to three years and four months behind bars. An additional charge for carrying a bladed article remains on file.
“This was an incredibly frightening experience for the victims,” said Detective Constable Tim Baker. “I commend their bravery in coming forward. Incidents like this leave lasting emotional scars. I hope the sentence brings them some comfort.”
“Elliott is a violent, repeat offender who thought he could just take money from innocent people. This brazen thuggery will always get a tough police response and, as Elliott has learned, a prison sentence.”
“Let this case be a clear warning to others who think they can get away with these crimes.”
