Fake Lover Rips Off Women for £20,000 Using Online Dating Scams
Conman Posed as ‘Tony Eden’ to Reel in Victims
Osagie Aigbonohan, 41, originally from Lagos, Nigeria, duped women online by using multiple fake names. He targeted victims on dating and social media sites, managing to swindle a total of £20,000. One woman alone lost nearly £10,000 after falling for his lies.
Ten-Month Romance Turned Into a money Pit
Under the alias “Tony Eden,” Aigbonohan charmed a woman in a relationship that lasted ten months last year. He convinced her to lend cash for expensive equipment he claimed was needed for an overseas drilling project.
Arrested with Fake ID and Visa Overstay
Police caught Aigbonohan in July 2021 carrying a fake driver’s licence. He was living in the UK illegally, having overstayed his visa by two years. Investigators also found he showed no remorse, fabricating lies to gain women’s trust just to steal their money.
