Salisbury’s Terry Newman Jailed for 12 Years Over Shocking Abuse
Terry Newman, 52, from Cherry Orchard Lane, Salisbury, was slammed with a 12-year prison sentence today (5 April) after being found guilty of historic sexual assaults and controlling behaviour.
Disturbing Abuse Comes to Light
Back in 2020, police were called to an unrelated matter involving Newman. During the visit, the victim bravely revealed a harrowing past of sexual violence and coercive control at Newman’s hands.
On one horrific occasion, Newman raped the woman, forcing her head down into a pillow. He also controlled her movements, dictating where she could go and even managing her finances.
Detective Commends Victim’s Courage
“Firstly, I would like to thank the victim for the bravery she has shown in contacting police about her ordeal,” said Detective Constable Ryan Churchley. “She demonstrated immense courage during the trial, having to relive the trauma in court while being cross examined after Newman pleaded not guilty.”
“I hope this sentence offers some closure, though no punishment can undo the damage he caused.”
Churchley added that Newman’s abuse often followed heavy drinking, describing him as violent and manipulative. “Nobody should ever have to endure what this woman experienced,” he said.
Police Urge Other Victims to Come Forward
Detective Churchley encouraged anyone else trapped in abusive situations to speak out. “You will be fully supported by officers, and we’ll connect you with agencies offering long-term help.”
This prison sentence sends a clear message: controlling and violent behaviour will not be tolerated.
