Bus Driver Jailed for Historic Child Abuse Charges

Trevor William Lee, 63, from Columbus Ravine, Scarborough, has been sentenced at Leeds Crown Court after a six-day trial last month. The former bus and coach driver was found guilty of multiple child sex offences committed between 1995 and 2007 against four girls.

Guilty of Horrific Crimes

  • Eight counts of indecent assault on a child
  • Eight counts of gross indecency with a child

The jury was unable to reach a verdict on a fifth child abuse charge and acquitted Lee of three other allegations.

Strict Measures on Release

The judge handed Lee an extended three-year licence, meaning he’ll be sent straight back to prison if he breaches strict public protection orders upon release.

Detective Constable Nick Burton from Scarborough CID, who led the investigation, received praise from the judge for his hard work and dedication.

Decades of Silence and Denial

Lee was once a trusted figure in Scarborough’s community and workplace. Yet, he was investigated multiple times by West Yorkshire Police in 2000 and 2006, and North Yorkshire Police in 2008 over abuse claims. No charges were brought at the time.

It wasn’t until 2017, when another complaint emerged, that DC Burton launched an intensive investigation. He tracked down witnesses, many now adults, and uncovered fresh evidence from across Bradford, Leeds, and Scarborough.

“All the victims showed astonishing determination in making complaints again. Some reported the abuse three times. Each had to relive their horrific childhood trauma,”

Lee remains unrepentant, denying all allegations and showing zero remorse. His actions destroyed the victims’ childhoods and have haunted them into adulthood.

DC Burton added, “I hope the court’s verdict brings these brave survivors justice and the strength to move on.”
