Cop Canned After Beer Bottle Brawl in Birmingham Nightclub
Off-Duty Officer Loses Job Over Violent Bar Incident
PC Howell, collar number 8877, was sacked on the spot by the Chief Constable on Monday 13 March.
Beer Bottle Assault Leaves Man With Forehead Injury
The drama unfolded on 10 December 2022 at Snobs nightclub in Birmingham. Off-duty and drunk, PC Howell hurled a beer bottle at a member of the public, smashing the man’s forehead and leaving a nasty cut.
Police Cover-Up Sealed His Fate
West Midlands Police launched a criminal probe, which ended with a Community Resolution. But Howell failed to report the assault or the outcome to British Transport Police (BTP), his own force.
Chief Constable Delivers Instant Dismissal
Admitting gross misconduct, Howell was promptly fired. Chief Constable Lucy D’Orsi blasted his actions:
“This was a deliberate and entirely unprovoked act of violence – which would be shocking in itself by any member of the public, let alone a serving police officer.”
“When an officer breaks the law it so seriously undermines public confidence in policing and for that reason I dismissed him with immediate effect. There is simply no place in BTP for people who behave like this.”
