Detective Sergeant Booted From Met for Sexual Harassment
Detective Sergeant Marvin Turner has been sacked from the Metropolitan Police for sexually harassing a female colleague during a night shift in June 2021. Turner, attached to the East Area Command Unit covering Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering, breached professional conduct with inappropriate comments and unwanted physical contact.
Boss Slams ‘Repugnant’ Behaviour
Superintendent Martin Rolston didn’t hold back, saying: “It is clear that DS Marvin Turner has no place in policing. His actions are thoroughly reprehensible. He took advantage of his position as a supervising officer to put a junior colleague in a very unpleasant situation.”
He added, “His behaviour was repugnant and falls well below the standard we – and the public – expect. It is right that he has been dismissed from the Metropolitan Police Service.”
Investigation and Outcome
- The female officer reported the incident in June 2021.
- Turner was placed on restricted duties on 2 July 2021 and questioned under caution later that month.
- The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards launched a probe, finding grounds for gross misconduct.
- A criminal investigation decided the case didn’t meet the threshold for Crown Prosecution Service referral.
Turner Barred for Life
The misconduct panel, chaired by an independent legal expert, ruled Turner should be dismissed without notice. He will be added to the Barred List held by the College of Policing, banning him from any future employment with police forces, policing bodies, or watchdogs nationwide.
