Police Officer Attacked During Early Morning Arrest in Church Street
A man was arrested in the early hours of Saturday, 7 May 2022, after police spotted suspicious behaviour in Church Street.
Violent Struggle Leaves Officer Injured
At around 4am, a police constable challenged the suspect, leading to a violent struggle. The officer was reportedly assaulted by the man and an unknown accomplice. The PC sustained multiple injuries, including wounds to his throat and limbs.
Backup arrived quickly, but the accomplice fled the scene and remains at large. The main suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.
Evidence of Theft Discovered on Nearby Roof
Police investigations uncovered damage to an air-conditioning unit on a Church Street rooftop. Metal piping had been removed and wiring cut, suggesting attempted theft.
Dariusz Kawa Charged and Remanded
Dariusz Kawa, 38, with no fixed address, was charged with theft, assault by beating of an emergency worker, possessing equipment for theft, and possession of cannabis. He was remanded to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 9 May.
