Teenager Jailed for Fatal Stabbing at ‘End of Lockdown’ Party
16-Year-Old Gets Four and a Half Years for Murder
A 16-year-old boy, unnamed due to legal reasons, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and possession of a knife at the Old Bailey on 25 March. On 3 May, he was sentenced to four years and six months behind bars for fatally stabbing 26-year-old Jason Nyarko at an illegal party in South London.
Deadly Night at ‘End of Lockdown’ Warehouse Rave
The tragic attack happened on 26 June 2021 at a massive, empty warehouse on Stockholm Road, SE16. The event, dubbed the ‘UME’ and promoted on social media as an “End of Lockdown” party, sold tickets online but also let people pay at the door.
Police were called around 11.45pm after reports of a stabbing. Paramedics arrived quickly but Jason was declared dead at the scene just after midnight. A post-mortem confirmed he died from a fatal stab wound to the chest.
Chaos and Confusion After the Stabbing
- Warehouse had little CCTV coverage
- Police relied on mobile footage and witness statements
- Jason collapsed after being attacked following a sudden fight
- The 16-year-old was found injured nearby, attacked by a group
- He was treated and then taken into police custody
The teenager and Jason didn’t know each other beforehand, and the reasons for the attack remain unclear.
Family and Police React
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie: “Jason’s death tragically shows the terrible consequences of carrying weapons – a young life ended far too soon. His family and friends are left devastated. A teenage boy will now face time in prison for what happened.”
Jason’s sister Jessica: “Nearly a year on, today’s sentencing doesn’t bring Jason back. We’re forced to live with the heartbreak that someone chose to take him from us. Two families will forever feel the impact of this violent act. Jason won’t walk this Earth again; all we have are memories. The teenager convicted will still live his life with his family. We hope he realises the damage he caused. We love and miss Jason every single day.”
