Teen Found Guilty of Murdering Dad-of-Four Outside His Home

A 16-year-old boy has been convicted of stabbing dad-of-four James Gibbons to death outside his Laindon home. The 34-year-old was attacked at around 9.30pm on Sunday 2 May in Iris Mews, just after hosting a birthday party for his twin daughters.

James was stabbed four times in an alleyway after stepping in to defend a man being bullied by a gang of youngsters. Despite the desperate efforts of paramedics and officers, James sadly died at the scene.

Cold-Blooded Attack After Birthday Celebration

The teenager claimed he carried a knife to protect himself from James. But prosecutors slammed this as a ‘variety of excuses’ during the five-week Chelmsford Crown Court trial. He was found guilty of murder and awaits sentencing.

Shockingly, after the killing, the teenager bragged in a Snapchat group message: “I don’t care, I’m a psychopath.” He added, “I’ve just M someone off and that,” and chillingly finished with, “I might as well go and kill everyone else I don’t like.”

Detective Says Verdict Brings Justice, But Not Comfort

“Today I am proud to say we have achieved justice for James and his family,” said Senior Investigating Officer DCI Louise Metcalfe. “But I know this verdict brings little comfort for their loss. James was not the aggressor. He died defending another man while celebrating with his family.”

Family Pays Tribute to ‘Hero’ James

James’ family released a heartfelt statement thanking police, paramedics, and everyone involved in the case. They described James as a “loving son, devoted father and protective brother” who detested bullies and always stood up for the vulnerable.

The family has launched Justice4JamesG Facebook and Instagram pages to raise awareness of knife crime and support victims.

“James was our hero,” they said. “He worked hard to provide for his family and had a bright future ahead with his fiancée Victoria and their children, all cruelly taken away in an instant.”
