Teen Stabs Man in Mansfield After Heated Chase

Joshua Price, 18, went on a violent rampage through Mansfield town centre, sparking a terrifying incident that left a man with a stab wound to the back.

Chased Victim Before Brutal Attack

Price first argued and taunted his 42-year-old victim before chasing him around Stockwell Gate on the evening of 19 August 2020. When the victim tried to back away, Price lunged, landing punches to the head, back, and hand.

It then turned deadly. Price pulled out a knife and stabbed the man once in the back. The victim needed urgent medical care, receiving four stitches to close the one-inch wound.

Knife Disposed in Panic, But Police Got It Back

After the attack, Price bolted, handing the knife to a friend and ordering it to be dumped. In a panic, the blade was thrown down a drain on Union Street—right in the heart of town.

Officers soon recovered the weapon after being tipped off about its location. Price, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and threatening someone with a bladed weapon in public.

Sentenced to Over Two Years at Young Offenders’ Institution

At Nottingham Crown Court on 18 August 2021, Price was jailed for two years and three months.

A witness told police they heard the victim shout, “Are you going to shank me then? I’ve just been stabbed.”

Detective Constable Gareth Peace from Nottinghamshire Police said:

“We take knife crime extremely seriously and acted swiftly to arrest Price. This sentence shows we won’t tolerate knife violence in our communities. Anyone carrying knives should expect real consequences that could alter their future.”

“We remain committed to stamping out knife crime to protect the people of Nottinghamshire.”

“I’m hopeful this justice will bring some relief to the victim.”
