Teen Thug Nabbed After Bold Moped Robbery Spree
A 17-year-old, who was just 15 when he carried out a string of brazen moped robberies, has been caught red-handed after walking into a café where police were plotting his arrest.
Youth Court Shocker: Teen Admits Multiple Robberies
On Thursday, 16 March, the youngster appeared at Croydon Youth Court. He admitted two counts of moped-enabled robbery, one count of attempted robbery, and possession of criminal property. He was sentenced to 12 months – six behind bars and six on licence – at Wimbledon Youth Court.
Victim Speaks Out: “I Feared for My Life”
Shortly after the first attack, the teen rammed a second victim on Danebury Avenue, SW15, stole his bike, and threatened him with a machete. The victim was injured after falling off.
“This crime made me fear for my life; I thought I could be murdered at that moment,” said the victim. “It’s caused me anxiety, stress, sleepless nights, and fear for my family’s safety. We’ve even hired overnight security more than once.”
“I’m now terrified to ride my bike on UK roads. My children are traumatised and have had disturbed sleep after seeing what happened and my injuries.”
“No one should ever have to feel this way. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I have.”
Met Police Praise Public Help in Crackdown
Detective Constable Ian Croxford from the Met’s Operation Venice team praised the public for sharing CCTV footage that helped identify the teen. “We always urge victims or witnesses to contact us ASAP. The ‘golden hour’ is crucial for gathering evidence and descriptions, helping us catch offenders,” he stated.
“Robberies have a massive impact on victims. We’re determined to reduce offences and improve detection rates.”
