Driver Caught Red-Handed with Fraud Gear on Ramsgate Cash Machine

Attaul Qayyum, 22, was the driver for a gang caught nicking cash machine data in Ramsgate back in August 2020. He was busted the same day after an off-duty cop spotted their dodgy behaviour.

Cash Machine Trick Exposed by Sharp-Eyed Public and Police

On August 21, 2020, kent-police/" title="Kent Police" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Kent Police were called after users reported a cash machine on Grange Road rejecting their cards. A member of the public then found a sneaky recording device hidden inside a false panel attached to the machine.

CCTV revealed two men: one planting the gadget, the other on lookout. Later, an off-duty officer recognised two of the suspects nearby and flagged it to 911, tailing their car to a roundabout on Thanet Way where colleagues arrested all three men. Qayyum was the driver.

Multiple Sting Operations Linked

Police uncovered a similar scam earlier that day on Broadstairs High Street. A lost card from that robbery was found in their car. The other two men had already admitted their guilt and served jail time in October 2020.

Police Praise Public and Warn Against Fraud

Qayyum and his gang aimed to defraud innocent people, causing major financial pain,” said PC Ellen Green of Kent Police. “Big thanks to the public who spotted the devices and the off-duty officer who followed the suspects.”

“If you see any shady setups on cash machines or think you’ve been scammed, report it immediately so we can catch these crooks.”

Qayyum, from Abbotsbury Road, Morden, south London, was sentenced to 15 months in prison on June 14, 2022, for possessing fraud devices.
