Camden Teen Murder: Gang Feud Ends in Tragedy
A 19-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering 16-year-old Alex Smith in Camden. Arif Biomy, from Greenwich, was convicted at Inner London Crown Court today, Tuesday 25 February.
Night of Bloodshed on Camden Streets
The court heard how Alex Smith, a member of a Camden street gang, was fatally stabbed just after 11pm on 12 August 2019. Biomy was part of a rival gang of six, cruising the Fitzrovia and Euston Road areas that night in two stolen cars, a Ford Fiesta and a Seat Leon, both using false plates.
Alex and friends had left a restaurant and then fled to a nearby estate, only to cross paths with the suspects. Soon after, the stolen vehicles stopped on Longford Street NW1. While Biomy stayed behind the wheel, three gang members chased Alex to Munster Square where he was stabbed multiple times, one wound proving fatal. The gang fled the scene, leaving Alex to die despite emergency crews’ best efforts.
Evidence and Arrests: Phones, CCTV and Burnt-Out Cars
Analysis of CCTV footage and phone records revealed Biomy and an accomplice, 19-year-old Yusuf Yusuf, spoke just before and after the killing. Yusuf later admitted to assisting an offender, specifically by setting fire to the two stolen cars to destroy evidence. The Ford Fiesta was burned out in Kilburn Park, the Seat Ibiza in East Barnet.
Both men were arrested mid-August 2019 and charged shortly after. The prosecution said all passengers in the cars were involved in the murder by joint agreement.
The Hunt Goes On for Remaining Gang Members
Police are still chasing four suspects linked to that deadly night. The Fiesta’s driver remains at large. Two passengers fled the UK days after the murder and are believed to be overseas. Another suspect, a 20-year-old man believed to have been in the Seat Ibiza, is currently detained under the Mental Health Act and deemed unfit for trial. One passenger from the Seat remains unidentified and free.
This Camden gang feud ended in tragic bloodshed. Officers vow to bring every suspect to justice.
