Silk Road Boss Thomas White Slapped With Nearly Half a Million Pound Confiscation
Thomas White, 26, who took the reins of the infamous dark web drug marketplace Silk Road after its 2013 shutdown, has been hit with a hefty financial blow. The Liverpool Crown Court ordered him to repay £493,550 from his bitcoin stash following his 2019 jail sentence of over five years.
Dark Web Empire Reborn
After the FBI shuttered the original Silk Road, White launched Silk Road 2.0, a shadowy site on the dark web where users bought and sold Class A and B drugs, hacking tools, and other illegal goods. All transactions operated anonymously using bitcoin.
Darker Crimes Discovered
Following his arrest, police seized his electronic devices and uncovered a horrifying cache of child sex abuse images, deepening the gravity of his crimes.
Law Enforcement Strikes Back
“We work tirelessly to prevent criminality such as this. We collaborate with law enforcement partners, using every tool available to stop organised criminals profiting from illicit activity,”
The court also confiscated all electronic items White used to commit his offences, sending a strong message to dark web criminals that justice will catch up with them.
