London Bus Driver Admits Drug Use After Killing 9-Year-Old Girl in Crash

Fatal Crash in Bexleyheath

Martin Asolo-Agogua, 23, a London bus driver from Nunhead, has pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving while under the influence of cannabis. The tragic crash on August 3, 2024, left nine-year-old Ada Bicakci dead and her five-year-old brother seriously injured.

Asolo-Agogua admitted to driving while unfit due to drugs at Woolwich Crown Court on Tuesday. The court heard he had been awake all night at a social event before smashing his bus into the siblings on Watling Street around 9:05am.

Judge Issues Stark Warning

Judge Ben Gumpert KC told Asolo-Agogua a prison sentence was “inevitable” for the devastating crash. He said:

“You have pleaded guilty to a very serious offence which has resulted in a young child losing her life. The circumstances of this offence are such that in my view it is inevitable that you will be sent immediately to prison.”

The judge highlighted aggravating factors: Asolo-Agogua was behind the wheel of a bus, drugged on cannabis, and had not slept prior to the collision. He added:

“Even if the court considers this to fall within the middle range of culpability, the starting point would be six years in prison.”

Despite the grim outlook, Asolo-Agogua has been granted bail until his sentencing hearing in June.

A Life Cut Tragically Short

Ada, who held dual British and Turkish nationality, was a keen gymnast and swimmer. Her family honoured her memory by donating her organs, which saved six other children’s lives.

In a heartfelt tribute on a GoFundMe page, her family wrote:

“We have been hit and shattered into pieces, one became six, living in new places. Thanks are not enough to show our gratitude. We’ll honour Ada with acts of magnitude.”

The fundraiser supports emergency services and hospital staff who cared for Ada in her final moments.

Community Outrage and Calls for Tougher Laws

The case sparked outrage across Bexleyheath and beyond. Locals expressed anger over a public service driver’s reckless actions while under the influence.

Campaigners are now demanding stricter drug testing and enforced rest periods for public transport drivers to prevent future tragedies.

As the community awaits sentencing, there is a strong call for justice—and renewed focus on protecting children on London’s roads.
