US Cannibal Killer Joseph Oberhansley Files Appeal in Grisly Murder Case
Indiana Man Appeals Murder Conviction
Joseph Oberhansley, the Indiana man convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend and gruesomely eating parts of her body, has officially filed a notice of appeal in Clark County. The filing, made on October 27 by his appellate lawyers, spans eight pages and demands a deep dive into trial documents and evidence.
Legal Team Demands Reams of Case Files
Oberhansley’s attorneys want transcripts and exhibits from 42 different hearing dates, dating all the way back to 2014. Victoria Casanova, part of the legal team, told the News and Tribune they’ll comb through the files thoroughly before deciding which issues to challenge on appeal.
Life Sentence for Brutal 2014 Murder
Clark Circuit Judge Vicki Carmichael handed Oberhansley a life sentence without parole on October 13, following the jury’s recommendation. The victim, Tammy Jo Blanton, 46, was found at her home on September 11, 2014, savagely mutilated. Authorities reported over 25 sharp force wounds and multiple blunt force injuries on her body.
Oberhansley Claims ‘Two Black Guys’ Did It
During his trial, Oberhansley claimed that two unidentified Black men were at Blanton’s home when he arrived around 4am. He insisted they were responsible for her murder, saying they knocked him unconscious. He said he only regained consciousness when police arrived at the scene.
