Brutal Isle of Sheppey Attack Ends with Jail for Stephen McCreadie
Unprovoked Attack in Front of Children
On 23 July 2021, Stephen McCreadie barged into a house on the Isle of Sheppey uninvited, where a woman he knew was living. Without warning, he launched a vicious attack, punching her repeatedly in front of her young children. The terrified woman seized an opportunity to escape while McCreadie was distracted, but he chased her down and landed multiple blows to her face, threatening to kill her.
Victim Suffers Serious Injuries
The woman was rushed to hospital, where doctors treated her for three broken ribs, bruises, and scratches. The trauma didn’t stop there. McCreadie bombarded her with abusive texts, threatening more violence. He also targeted her family with similar threats, forcing the victim to contact police in November.
Justice Served: Jail and Restraining Order
McCreadie, then 41 and of no fixed address, was caught and arrested on 10 January 2022. He pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court to inflicting grievous bodily harm and harassment. On 14 October 2022, he was sentenced to three years in prison and slapped with a 10-year restraining order.
“McCreadie is a violent bully who put a woman through an appalling ordeal,” said PC Emily Matthews.
“The assault was so severe, the victim stayed in hospital for eleven days. The threats afterwards caused huge distress. I commend her courage in coming forward. I’m glad McCreadie will now serve time and face a lengthy restraining order.”
