Man Charged After Dangerous Police Chase and Domestic Attack
Alex Moore, 47, from Timberbank, Vigo, was arrested after a terrifying evening on 8 February 2024. Police were called when Moore reportedly threatened and attacked a former partner and a child.
Police Pursuit Ends in Crash
Officers arrived quickly and spotted Moore driving away. After stopping him briefly to confirm his identity, Moore sped off, clipping a police car. The chase continued to Lower Rainham Road, where Moore deliberately reversed into the patrol car.
The collision caused the police car’s airbags to deploy and filled the vehicle with smoke. One officer suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Multiple Charges Including Assault and Dangerous Driving
Moore was found near his car and arrested. He faces a slew of charges:
- Possession of a bladed article in public
- Threats to kill
- Intentional strangulation
- Assault of an emergency worker
- Drink driving and dangerous driving
- Failing to stop
- Destroying property with intent to endanger life
Sentenced to Eight Years, Driving Ban, and Restraining Order
Moore pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court on 12 July 2024 to eight years in prison. He was also given an indefinite restraining order and a three-year driving ban, which will start after his release.
Detective Constable Sam Strudwick said: “Moore subjected his former partner and a child to frightening behaviour which put them in fear for their lives. Not only did he use physical force on them, but also a knife to inflict more fear.”
“He then put the public in danger by drink driving and deliberately ramming a police car, causing it to be written off. Kent Police takes domestic abuse reports seriously and has trained officers to handle investigations sensitively, offering safeguarding advice and protection for victims.”
