MP Sir David Amess Murdered in Shocking Stabbing Attack

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after Sir David Amess, the Southend West MP, was fatally stabbed at a property on Eastwood Road North, Leigh-on-Sea. The brutal attack took place shortly after midday on Friday, 15 October.

Knife Recovered at Scene

Police recovered a knife at the scene of the stabbing. Thankfully, no one else suffered injuries in the horrifying incident.

Terrorism Declared in MP Killing

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Dean Haydon, Senior National Coordinator for Counter Terrorism Policing, has officially declared the murder a terrorist act. The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is now leading the ongoing investigation.

Suspect Detained Under Terrorism Laws

  • After arrest, the suspect was further detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
  • He remains in custody at a London police station.
  • Detectives secured a warrant on 16 October from Westminster Magistrates’ Court to hold him until 22 October.
  • Police have searched three London premises linked to the investigation; one search is complete, others continue.
  • A post mortem was conducted today to aid the probe.
