Neeka Atkinson was violently attacked on a school playground at Archbishop Sentamu Academy on Friday, July 8. Her family say a boy grabbed her by the neck and slammed her head-first onto the concrete.
Horror Assault Leaves Neeka Fighting for Life
Alisha Atkinson, Neeka’s sister, described the shocking attack: “He picked her up by the neck and slammed her head first into the concrete before walking away laughing and saying, ‘it’s funny she deserves it.’ Neeka went to student services, crying and in pain.”
Shortly after, Neeka began fitting violently and was rushed to hospital. “Her eyes were rolling, and she was sick,” Alisha added.
Doctors found a large blood clot and a bleed on Neeka’s brain. She was immediately put into a coma and underwent emergency surgery that lasted four hours. With limited resources at Hull Royal, Neeka will soon be transferred to a specialist hospital in Leeds or Sheffield.
Neeka’s Struggle: Can Only Move Half Her Face
Now awake, Neeka can only move the right side of her face and struggles to speak. In a heartbreaking moment, she asked her grandmother if she was dead because she couldn’t control her body anymore.

New Executive Principal Helen Winn released a statement: “We are very concerned for our 13-year-old student. Our thoughts are with her, her family, and her friends. We are grateful to medical staff working hard to care for her. Due to police involvement, we cannot comment further.”
