Delivery Driver Jailed for Sex Attacks on Women During Food Runs
Afghan Asylum Seeker Blames ‘Cultural Misunderstanding’
Shafiullah Rasooli, 29, an Afghan asylum seeker, admitted to sexually assaulting two women while working as a delivery driver in Maidstone. At Maidstone Crown Court, he denied one attack and bizarrely claimed the other was a “cultural misunderstanding.”
How Rasooli Carried Out His Shocking Attacks
Prosecutor Stuart Allen revealed both victims were total strangers to Rasooli. On June 26 last year, Rasooli called at a woman’s home during a delivery. He asked for her date of birth, then crossed onto her porch uninvited. He put his arm around her and groped her breast. When she resisted his offer of wine, she agreed just to get him to leave — but he returned with two bottles and continued the assault. Shockingly, he saved her number and called twice the following day. The second victim suffered a similar ordeal on July 3. Rasooli barged inside her flat without permission, grilled her with personal questions, and then carried out the sexual assault.
Rasooli Sentenced to Prison for Multiple Sex Attacks
Still awaiting his asylum decision after fleeing Afghanistan, Rasooli was convicted on three counts of sexual assault. The judge sentenced him to two years and six months for two counts and two years and two months for the third, all to run at the same time. He must serve half of his sentence behind bars before being released on licence.
