Tragic End to High-Speed Police Chase Leaves Man Dead
Motorbike Crash Claims 30-Year-Old’s Life
A 30-year-old man died yesterday after a high-speed police chase ended with his motorbike crashing into railings on Commercial Road in Limehouse.
The crash happened around 2.20pm on Monday, March 20. Two riders were thrown from the bike during the collision. The other rider, aged 29, was rushed to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Victim’s Troubled Past
The deceased has been identified as Alamin Kazi, who leaves behind a wife and a two-week-old baby daughter.
Back in 2016, Kazi, then 23, was sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison after admitting to multiple counts of robbery and handling stolen motorbikes and scooters.
He was part of a gang that reportedly stole up to ten motorcycles daily, using them to snatch phones from pedestrians before selling the stolen vehicles.
Police Probe Underway After Pursuit
The police chase started after the motorbike failed to stop for officers. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has now referred the case to the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards.
An independent investigation will be launched due to the sensitive nature of the police pursuit and the fatal crash.
Scene of the Crash
Police cordoned off Commercial Road for most of the day as forensic teams combed the area for evidence. Debris was scattered across the road where the dramatic collision unfolded.
