Woman Jailed for ‘Worst Case’ of Domestic Abuse
Sheree Spencer, 45, from Market Weighton, has been locked up for four years after viciously abusing her husband over five years. The Hull Crown Court heard shocking details of her coercive and controlling behaviour from 2016 to 2021, plus three brutal assaults in 2020.
Horrific Abuse Detailed in Court
Judge Kate Rayfield condemned Spencer’s actions as “the worst case of controlling and coercive behaviour I have seen.” Along with the prison sentence, Spencer was slapped with an indefinite restraining order.
During the violent attacks, Mr Spencer was spat at, grabbed by the throat, bitten multiple times, and struck with a bottle — leaving permanent damage to his ear and elbow.
Police Praise Victim’s Courage
PC Adele Jenkinson praised Mr Spencer’s “strength, courage, and patience” throughout the investigation. She said the sentence offers much-needed closure for him and those close to him.
“Sheree Spencer is an abusive and violent woman who subjected her husband to years of abuse,” said PC Jenkinson. “The offences happened regularly, sometimes multiple times a day.”
She added: “This outcome shows victims that no matter who you are, we will listen, support, and take action to deliver justice.”
