One striking case saw an NHS hospital trust IT manager jailed for stealing a whopping £800,000 — enough to pay 16 nurses’ salaries for a whole year.

Thanks to the joint efforts of the NFI, Local Counter Fraud Specialist (RSM), NHS Counter Fraud Authority, and HMRC, the fraud was uncovered. He was promptly dismissed, prosecuted, and sentenced to over five years behind bars. Confiscation of his ill-gotten gains is underway.
