Canterbury Man Jailed for Child Sexual Assault
Karl Kennett, 28, was locked up for seven years after sexually assaulting a primary school boy in Canterbury in 2020. The victim bravely came forward to his parents, who alerted kent.police.uk" title="Kent Police" target="_blank">Kent Police.
Multiple Victims, One Guilty Man
Police later uncovered separate, earlier offences against a second child of a similar age. Kennett was found guilty of two counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and one count of sexual assault against a child following a trial at Canterbury Crown Court.
Harsh Sentence and Lifetime Restrictions
On August 9, 2022, Kennett was sentenced to seven years behind bars and handed an additional three years’ probation on release. A 12-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also slapped on him to prevent any future crimes.
Police Praise Victims’ Bravery
“I would like to praise the bravery of these two young victims, and their families, for reporting these offences and supporting the prosecution,” said Detective Constable Rebecca Keeler. “Kennett refused to acknowledge what he had done, escalating the victims’ suffering and requiring a trial. I’m glad the evidence we gathered resulted in guilty verdicts and that this dangerous man is now incarcerated for a lengthy period.”
