Drug Mule Busted at Melbourne Airport with Cocaine Capsules Inside
Australian Border Force (ABF) officers cracked down on a drug smuggler at Melbourne International Airport on December 28, 2022. The man, arriving from the Middle East, was picked for a baggage check that revealed cocaine.
Capsules Containing 120g of Cocaine Found Inside
AFP officers took the suspect to Royal Melbourne Hospital for a CT scan. He later passed six yellow plastic capsules, which allegedly contained around 120 grams of cocaine. The man faces serious charges for importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug under Australian law.
Facing Up to 25 Years Behind Bars
- The maximum sentence for this offence is 25 years in prison.
- The man appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 30 and was remanded in custody.
- He is due back for a committal mention on March 27, 2023.
Warnings from AFP and ABF Officials
“Smuggling drugs internally is idiotic,” warned AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Chris Salmon. “There’s a real risk of fatal overdose or permanent organ damage.”
ABF Acting Superintendent Ian Beasant added: “No matter how you try to hide drugs, you will be caught. It’s not worth risking your health or future by trying to smuggle drugs into Australia.”
The message is clear: Aussie border officers are watching and ready to stop drug mules dead in their tracks.
