Cop Jailed for Grooming Teen Girl
Shock Arrest and Conviction
PC Adnan Arib, a police officer with the Central East Command Unit, has been jailed for two years after being caught arranging to meet a 15-year-old girl. Officers from the Directorate of Professional Standards acted on a tip-off and arrested him during a sting operation.
Following the arrest, PC Arib was suspended from duty. An independent probe by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) led to charges of misconduct in public office. He was found guilty at Southwark Crown Court and sentenced on 3 March.
Metropolitan Police Responds
Detective Chief Superintendent Marcus Barnett, overseeing Hackney and Tower Hamlets policing, delivered a stinging condemnation. He said: “Officers like PC Arib are not welcome in our Met and the sentence handed to him today reflects the seriousness of his actions.”
He added, “We serve communities in times of distress and it’s a duty we take seriously. The trust of the public is vital to keeping London safe. We will act decisively when officers fall below expected standards.”
Details of the Abuse
Between March and July 2019, PC Arib made inappropriate contact with two teenage girls aged 15 and 16. He met them during his police duties and entered into text conversations, asking if they wanted to meet. He arranged to meet the 15-year-old, who later reported the incident.
Restoring Public Trust
The Met has vowed to rebuild confidence, refusing to wait for ongoing inquiries to complete. Measures include:
- Two independent reviews
- Examination of all sexual and domestic abuse allegations against Met officers
- Increasing investigators in the Professional Standards Directorate
The Met condemns such behaviour and stresses its core values of professionalism, integrity, courage, and compassion. PCs like Arib will be relentlessly rooted out to maintain public trust.
