Burglar Caught Red-Handed in Dagenham
Daniel Meade, 43, from Upper Rainham Road, Havering, has been nailed for a brazen burglary. He was handed a three-year jail sentence at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 27 October after pleading guilty. On top of that, Meade was slapped with a £228 fine.
How He Got In
On the evening of 27 August 2022, at around 5.30pm, Meade targeted a property in Dagenham. The crook sneaked down a side path, crawled through a bush, and reached through a cat flap to snatch a set of keys. Using those keys, he let himself in through the back door.
Loot Stolen and Quick Cops
Inside, Meade swiped perfume, toy figurines, and a handbag before legging it. But police were called and raced to the scene. Officers quickly found and arrested him. During the police interview, he gave no comment but was later charged.
PC Adam Sparrow, East Area Command Unit, said: “This was a very frightening ordeal for the victim who was not at home but was able to see him via CCTV.
“She called us and we were quickly on scene to arrest him. Meade has a long history of offending, including burglary offences.
“Many burglaries are opportunistic, as is the case here. I would advise Londoners to keep storage of their personal items well out of sight and reach of any thieves, as well as investing in deterrents such as lighting and CCTV – the availability of which left Meade with no choice but to plead guilty here.”
