Liam Wilson Jailed for Fatal Crash in Ashton-in-Makerfield
Liam Wilson, from Livingstone Street, Ashton-in-Makerfield, has been sentenced to five years behind bars at the Royal Courts of Justice in London this Friday (27 November 2020).
Sentence Increased After Guilty Plea
Wilson’s prison term was bumped up by a year from the original four years handed down at Bolton Crown Court on 3 September 2020, after he pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
His driving ban was extended too—from five years and ten months to six years and six months. Once the ban ends, Wilson will face an extended driving retest before he’s allowed back on the roads.
Deadly Speeding on Residential Road
On the afternoon of Tuesday 7 July 2020 at about 4.30pm, Wilson was caught tearing down Old Road in Ashton-in-Makerfield at 58mph in a 20mph zone.
He lost control, mounted the pavement, and hit 13-year-old Jack Marcus Worwood, who was walking home from football practice.
Tragic Loss of Young Life
Young Jack suffered severe injuries from the collision and sadly died the following day, 8 July 2020.
Wilson’s reckless driving brought devastation to the local community and led to his stiffened sentence today.
